Everything a school leader, business manager or data protection officer needs to know about who we are, how we handle data, and the standards we hold ourselves to.
Status key: Live in place now In progress underway Planned on our roadmap
Built by a practising SENCo
The SENDNest for Schools was created by Alanna Anderson, drawing on eighteen years of SEND experience across mainstream and specialist settings:
National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCO), 2013
Qualified teacher with QTS (Biology, 11 to 18), since 2007
IPSEA Level 3 SEND law training, 2025
Current Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) safeguarding training
Data protection & security
Our whole design principle is to hold as little as possible.
✓No pupil records, by designLive Staff make general, non-identifying professional selections. A pupil’s name is added only on your own screen at the point a document is exported, and never reaches us. There are no pupil records here to lose, share or hand back.
✓Data stored in the United KingdomLive Our database is hosted in London (Amazon Web Services, eu-west-2), with isolation between schools, encryption in transit and at rest, and minimised logging.
✓Full data protection documentationLive Privacy Notice, Data Processing Agreement, and a platform Data Protection Impact Assessment completed to the standard the law expects of a mandatory one, with incident-response and complaints procedures. Available for your DPO to review.
✓Breaches notified to schools without undue delayLive A clear breach procedure, and a data protection complaint route acknowledged within 30 days.
✓ICO registrationIn progress Completed as part of onboarding, before any pilot school goes live.
✓Cyber EssentialsPlanned We are working towards the UK government-backed Cyber Essentials certification.
Accreditation & quality
Independent standards and expert review.
✓CPD Group provider accreditationLive Approved Provider with The CPD Group (provider #791009). Our entry on the public register.
✓Annual course content reviewLive Every course is reviewed at least annually for accuracy and currency, with statutory content authored and verified, not machine-generated.
✓Independent expert reviewPlanned Experienced SEND practitioners are being invited to review our content and lend their names.
How we support your statutory duties
Our training and tools are built around what schools are accountable for.
Whole-staff training and the drafting tools map directly to the graduated approach and the documents schools are expected to produce, supporting (not replacing) your responsibilities under:

Accessibility
A SEND product should be usable by everyone.
✓WCAG 2.1 AA commitmentLive We maintain an accessibility statement and design to WCAG 2.1 AA, with an independent audit planned.
